What is SQL (esquel)? What Does It Do?

The presence of dynamic websites on the World Wide Web today is largely directly proportional to the ability to manage their content through databases. Database management, on the other hand, is a complex process that is usually structured by the SQL language. As its full name suggests (Structured Query Language), SQL is responsible for querying and modifying information stored in a specific database management system. If you work in the field of information technology or are interested in it as a hobby, you have heard the term SQL. SQL, which is almost the basis of websites, dates back to the 1970s, when IBM developed new database software called System R. The query language developed to manage data stored in System R is known by the name SQL, which is compensated in the form of esquel, although it was originally called SEQUEL. Let's take a closer look at what SQL query language is, where it is used and what advantages it offers.

What is SQL?

SQL stands for Structured Query Language and is a programming language used to interact with relational databases. It provides a standardized way to create, modify, delete tables, run queries to retrieve and analyze data, or manage and process data in databases. SQL is widely used by developers, database administrators, data analysts, and people who work with databases. It is a powerful and flexible language with the ability to process and manage large amounts of data. In short, SQL is a special programming language designed for specific databases.

The SQL query language offers users great flexibility by supporting distributed databases, that is, databases that can run on multiple computer networks at the same time. Certified by ANSI and ISO, SQL serves both industrial and academic needs as it has become the standard query language that forms the basis for various database applications built into the Internet. It is also used on individual computers and corporate servers. With advances in database technology, SQL-based applications are becoming increasingly affordable for ordinary users. This is because MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Firebird and many more open source SQL database solutions are available.

SQL Standard

Due to the enormous size of the SQL standard, in most cases, the file storage or indexing behavior of the database is not well defined, and it is up to the developers of various SQL applications to decide how the database will behave. However, it works with most modern types of relational database systems, since all SQL applications have the same foundation. A relational database system has data stored in tables with similar data groups in rows and related information connected to other columns in columns.

The SQL language is based on several elements. To make the SQL language easier, some language commands are completed through the SQL command line interface, which is defined as CLI. There are many SQL commands that can be selected depending on the specific requirements of a database. Here are some of the most common commands:

What is SQL good for?

SQL mainly generates results in the form of tables that allow you to select, update, add or delete data in the database. Other programming languages often produce other forms of results, such as numeric values, strings, or objects.

SQL can be used for interactive applications, such as requesting data from a database or generating reports through a web application. Other programming languages can be used both for interactive applications and for more advanced applications, such as developing complex algorithms for artificial intelligence or building operating systems.

SQL is specifically designed to work with relational databases. That is why it has its own syntax and structure, designed specifically for working with databases. It is a declarative language rather than a procedural language like Python. This means that SQL is more focused on what needs to be done than how it should be done. Most other programming languages are compiled but SQL is not compiled. Instead, a specially designed database engine executes SQL commands and processes the results.

Database SQL is pretty much the foundation of your website and one of its most important aspects. SQL can be used for a variety of applications. It is preferable, for example, to remember certain data. People who register in your web store are part of this database. After entering the data of the people who have registered on your web page, all the information is entered into the SQL database. The person who signs up will have all their data stored at the next login and can log in based on this information.

Data can also be edited and deleted in this database. Therefore, it is always important to ensure the proper security of a SQL database, since all this data is usually private and must be handled with care.

How Does SQL Work?

SQL works by using commands (queries) to interact with relational databases. Most database systems, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle, support SQL as the default language for data management. When you type a SQL query in a specific syntax designed to communicate with the database in a consistent and easy to understand way, that query goes to the database, which interprets and executes the command to retrieve, edit, or delete the requested data.

SQL has the ability to perform various types of operations, such as creating and modifying tables on data in a database, adding, updating, and deleting records, selecting specific records from a table, and merging data from multiple tables using merges. The programming language also offers the ability to perform complex queries. This allows data to be grouped, filtered and summarized.

In general, SQL makes it work by processing queries that perform specific tasks on data in a database. The results of these queries are recorded, analyzed or displayed in reports according to the needs of the user. Data in SQL is often formatted in tables to keep it open. Many websites are equipped with an SQL database, but a bank must have a larger database than a small web store.

What are the advantages of SQL?

SQL databases are useful and widely used in industrial automation to store and manage data. There are various uses of SQL databases, especially in the industrial automation industry. But in general, it can be of benefit in a wider area. The advantages of SQL can be listed as follows:

Today there are more websites than ever before, and the demand for advanced SQL to run all of them well has increased. Programming, for example, is a profession that requires knowledge of SQL. Database administrators also need SQL knowledge, but a different kind of knowledge is required from programmers. It is also quite important for professions such as analysts, plans, managers.
