What is the Computing Cycle?

Data is of vital value to every organization and company. Because organizations follow a path based on data, including customer experience, production processes, management, and all departments. Therefore, it is necessary to correctly enter the information into the system, go through stages such as processing-classification, output and saving-storage. All these processes are indispensable stages of the computing cycle. Every action in an information processing system such as a computer, for example, always goes through three stages: input, processing and output. However, storage is also the most important stage of the computing cycle today for the incorporation of data into processes. You can find all the details that need to be known about the computing cycle in the continuation of the article, and you can get healthy data by processing your company data according to these stages.

What is Information Processing?

Information processing refers to the manipulation of digitized information by computers and, collectively, information technology equipment.

Information processing systems include programs, operating systems, computers or other electronic devices, networks, and hosts capable of processing information. When data needs to be transferred or used in any way, it must go through information processing stages.

A computer information processor processes information to produce understandable results. The process may involve collecting, recording, retrieving, or disseminating information. For example, when printing a text file, a computer processor works to translate and format digital information into printed form.

The requirement for information processing began a long time ago when companies and governments wanted to process large amounts of data, usually calculated statistically or from aggregated data. Information processing technologies have also gained momentum, as the desire to travel into space further increases the need to process large amounts of data. Thanks to digitalization processes, data has become more valuable and therefore its quantity has increased considerably. All of this information can be processed by many devices, hundreds of satellites and software, and trillions of bytes of information are processed every minute.

Information processing is still in the growth phase. Due to larger systems and more efficient recording, the amount of information processed worldwide continues to grow.

What is the Computing Cycle?

The term computing cycle can be defined as “A system that aims to provide information”. But the definition can be described in more detail within the framework of information and system terms. Information has content consisting of data. Therefore, data only becomes information if it can be used in a meaningful way. Without the user, there is no information either. The system, on the other hand, encompasses the tasks that the computing cycle must perform or the parts that make up the system.

The computing cycle refers to the stages that data goes through so that it can be processed, and this cycle is universal. Data can be added to the computer or to different processing units within the framework of this cycle. Cloud storage, for example, is a good alternative to computer memories. To create databases, data must be entered correctly. Thanks to this, the information needed becomes available in a short time. As a result of this process, large data warehouses can be created and large networks of information that are constantly evolving, such as Big Data, can be achieved.

Since the computing cycle is called a system, this system must have several components to be able to perform its tasks. In modern organizations, information systems are greatly automated. These automated information systems consist of the following components: hardware, software, data, networks, people and procedures. As can be seen from here, it's all about digitalization. As technologies evolve, adhering to basic principles, the computing cycle also changes. For example, data entry can be carried out not manually, but with the help of artificial intelligence, as in machine learning. For example, a librarian's job is to preserve and access a document or record. For this, records need to be collected, processed, recorded.

Purpose of the Computing Cycle

Information processing is a theory of human behavior, based on the idea that humans actively process information they receive from their senses as computers do. Humans also take in, record, shape, and store the information their brain receives. And that means learning. When the information processing cycle involved in computer processes is supported by artificial intelligence, Deep Learning and Machine Learning technologies emerge.

The process of converting data into a form that can be processed by computers is the main purpose of information processing. In the case of processing processes in computers, the information processing cycle is the sequence of operations that the computer performs when executing a program. The cycle consists of four basic stages: collection, decoding, execution, and rewriting. The collection or capture phase is the part where the computer receives an instruction from memory; the decoding phase, where the computer decodes the instruction; the execution phase, where the computer executes the instruction; and the rewriting phase, where the computer writes the results of the instruction back to memory.

Stages of the Computing Cycle

Information processing is divided into four stages: input, processing, output, and storage. These three stages can only be used three times by a processor without having to store data. Input devices can collect data both at the source and at the measurement point. The data is processed in the IPOS model, stored after entering the model or in a form that is available to the user. A screen, speaker, or other medium that the human senses can perceive receives information from the IPOS. A process can range from a relatively small task to a complex one. The processed data in the exit phase can be viewed in another IPOS module if necessary. The four stages of the data processing cycle are:

1. The CPU writes data to the computer's temporary memory or random access memory (RAM).

2. The computer then waits for the user's command to move data from RAM to more permanent storage. If this command is given, the computer writes the data to the disk drive.

3. Finally, the computer saves the data to a location on the drive, the default storage location, or a user-set location. The user can then recall this stored information at any time.

You can also store information using external storage devices (such as USB drives or external hard drives), or you can take advantage of Cloud Computing systems. Because given the fact that physical memories become unused over time and the growing size of data day by day, cloud storage options are the best method for the organization.

The computing cycle includes the most basic stages of the process of obtaining data. In the case of computers or any technological devices, these stages also apply. The main thing is to complete the stages and obtain useful data from the information. In addition, the storage of this data and its availability if necessary is considered as a continuation of the process. Therefore, you can use Komtaş services to protect your data and integrate your organization into digitalization processes.

What is Data Quality?

It is difficult to make a clear definition of data quality. The truth is that your data quality is good if the data achieves its purpose of using it. For example, showing the right values on a management board to guide the organization ensures that management is also consistent and the process is managed correctly.
